New Kids on the Block rock the Gwinnett Arena

On Wednesday October 29th the New Kids on the Block performed to a sold out crowd at the Arena at Gwinnett in Duluth . Taking a peek around the arena you quickly realized the audience was filled with 30 something's eager to take a trip down memory lane to fall in love all over again with their first loves Joey, Donnie , Jordan , Danny and Jon. The few men spotted throughout the audience who brought their significant others surely didn't know what they were in for.

The opening acts were pop artist Natasha Beddingfield and up and comer Lady Gaga who's dance tunes and unique style had many in the audience asking who is this girl. As these performances wound down the energy was building and the 12 year old girl inside each audience member was starting to bubble out.

The show started with a video that spoke of how 15 years ago they walked away and tonight they are back. A glance at some of the audience members made you think you were back in 1990 when the new kids were at their peak, some girls were sporting hot pink leggings, jean skirts, high ponytails and oversized NKOTB buttons. Throughout the opening video the ear piercing squeals that will have ears ringing for days started.

About half way through the show the guys came to middle of the audience and performed on a small rotating stage giving some audience members the chance to not only see them up close and personal but to reach out and touch them. A moving moment happened when Donnie spoke of the industry saying they couldn't make it back to sell out crowds. They had been gone for too long and now we have you tube and the internet. He said they didn't take into account one thing…there aren't 5 members of the new kids there are six and the sixth is the fans. This caused yet another eruption of ear piercing screams.

Throughout the show they mixed newer songs with a few old ones but as the night was winding down there were a few songs they had yet to perform. They waved, bowed and the stage went black…within moments the arena was filled with oh oh oh oh oh…….hangin tough. The entire arena was chanting part of one their most famous songs. A few moments later they came back to perform two more songs before the night was officially closed. As everyone walked to their cars faces were filled with smiles as they had just seen a performance that they never thought would happen.
