Johns Creek teen to compete on Jeopardy!

A Johns Creek teen has found his way onto one of the most popular game shows on TV. Bradley Silverman, 16, will appear on the Jeopardy! Teen Tournament Nov. 11.

Silverman, a junior at Centennial High School, traveled with his family to Los Angeles in early October to tape the show.

His journey to the Jeopardy! stage started last year in October, when he completed an online test for the teen tournament.

Silverman was invited to an audition in Nashville where he completed an interview with a contestant coordinator and played a mock game of Jeopardy! The show was scheduled to tape in January, but between the writer's strike and host Alex Trebek's heart attack, he thought his chances to compete were slim.

He began to look for this year's tournament when a show representative called Silverman's family in August and asked if he'd like to come to Los Angeles and be a contestant on Jeopardy!.

He quickly said yes and Silverman was off to California to compete in the tournament.

"To practice, I watched the show and my brother helped me with a few categories," said Silverman.

He said he was a little nervous leading up to the taping of the show, but once he was on stage, playing the game made things go by quickly.

"I couldn't sleep well the night before and I didn't eat a lot," said Silverman, who added that he arrived at the studio at 7 a.m. to do publicity and sit in the green room until his name was called to play.

"(The stage is) a lot smaller than I thought it would be," said Silverman. "It just looks a lot bigger on TV and you're really close to the audience."

Silverman said the only time he chatted with Trebek was during the taping of the show when he asks the contestants about themselves.

He's contractually unable to say how well he played the game; Silverman said his friends kept asking him the results of the show, but he has to tell them to tune in Nov. 11 and watch the show.

Silverman, whose favorite subject is math, said he gets "pretty good grades" in school. He hopes to major in engineering when he enters college.
