Two people died on Ga. 92 in Roswell Nov. 2 and another is in Grady Hospital in critical condition after a car crash that police think may have involved alcohol.
Lt. James McGee, a spokesman for the Roswell Police Department, said Marietta resident Julio C. Cate and his 24 year-old roommate, Jairo E. Curruchich, were both dead on scene when police arrived. Investigators do not know Cate's age, and McGee said they have not found a driver's license for him.
The two were in a 1992 Acura Integra with their two other roommates shortly before 2:30 a.m. going eastbound on Ga. 92 near its intersection with Mansell Road when a 2004 Lincoln limousine hit them in the center lane because they did not have their headlights illuminated.
"There will be no charges [for the limo driver] because he was driving on the right side of the road, doing what he was supposed to be doing," said McGee. "Here came these other guys with their headlights turned off - there was not much he could do."
Cate, who was driving, and Curruchich, who was sitting in the backseat on the driver's side, died. The other two men in the car were taken to local hospitals: one is in critical condition at Grady, while the other is at North Fulton Regional Hospital in stable condition with minor injuries.
The driver of the limo was taken to Grady Hospital with minor injuries. He was the only person in that vehicle.
McGee said there was a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage at the scene coming from the Integra. The accident is still under investigation, he said, but because the deceased was likely at fault, "There's just not much we can do at this point."
