Alpharetta firefighter charged with child pornography

A seven-year veteran with Alpharetta's fire department has been arrested and charged with six counts of child pornography, authorities said.

George Gordon, a spokesman with the Alpharetta Department of Public Safety, said the accused, Fire Services Captain Tristen Cruz, turned himself in at the Gwinnett County Jail Dec. 4. He has been charged by the GBI with six counts of sexual exploration of a child.

Cruz is an Alpharetta resident, having recently moved into the Alta Park apartments from Gwinnett County. According to his page on public safety networking site firefighternation.com, he is a 19-year fire fighting veteran who served in New Mexico before coming to Georgia. He has also worked with Rural Metro Ambulance and Grady Emergency services, according to his Web page.

Gordon said Alpharetta and the GBI have been working on the case for several weeks. Cruz was placed on administrative leave with pay during the investigation.
