Cumming Country Fair and Festival starts soon

Anyone looking for something fun and inexpensive to do this fall should head out to the Cumming Country Fair and Festival. It is open Oct. 2-12 to anyone looking for some "down home country fun," which is the slogan for this year's fair.

The fair is being held at Cumming Fairgrounds at 235 Castleberry Road and includes concerts, rides, entertainment, food, a heritage villages, and more. There are also specials going on daily, such as specialty prices on rides, so be sure to call ahead and find out more information.

The event has grown over the years from a mere five day to an eleven day event. Fair Director Dave Horton said something the public can anticipate this year is some brand new entertainers along with some brand new shows.

One of the most highly anticipated attractions will be the high-dive act, Horton said. The diving act comes along with an 80-foot tower and pyrotechnics.

"This is the same fair as all the other years," he said. "Same format; educational and family-oriented."

Horton said his favorite attraction is the Ferris wheel that Elvis Presley once rode.

Horton describes the wheel as "a beautiful, one of a kind wheel built in 1962."

The fair will be open on Monday-Thursday from 4 p.m.- 10 p.m., Friday from 4 p.m.- midnight, Saturday from 10 a.m. - midnight and Sunday from 12:30 -7 p.m.

Admission varies from $7 for adults to Students for $3. Children 4 and under visit for free.

Concerts are also free with fair admission. While you're there be sure to register to win a 2008 GMC Canyon-courtesy of Carl Black (must be 18 years or older to enter).
