NOW PLAYING with Scott Sowers: Try to 'Stay Positive'

Some albums are great year-round: their timeless nature makes them a suitable play no matter what the weather is like outside. But other albums depend on the season as the mood of the music matches what it's like outside.

A good fall album is one that is filled with some twang but still enough energy to make you forget that winter is near.

When winter does come, the perfect album are those slower, more mellow efforts, with often somber lyrics to match. As the mercury starts to amp up, however, so too does the energy on a good summer album.

Summer music should be the kind that is fit for a long road trip or day at the beach: fast, loud and drenching with sweat. This year we're getting treated to maybe the ultimate summer album by the ultimate summer band: "Stay Positive" from the Hold Steady.

Every year upwards of 80,000 people come to a huge 700-acre farm to hear some of the biggest acts in the world take the stage in a festival that features a lineup as diverse as it is lengthy. Where else could you see Metallica play alongside Kanye West, comedian Chris Rock and the bluegrass sounds of the Yonder Mountain String Band?
